double post: D.C. & beginner DIY
Most of my summer involves me lounging around this house (curse this suburban town and my 20/60 hours driving requirement), but every once and a while, I get to liven things up.
places visited: Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden & Museum, Chinatown, American Art Museum, Freer + Sackler Gallery

Spotted: Another Lame Reality Show
NYC PREP - Bravo 9 p.m. Tuesdaysquick verdict:
TUNE ON IF YOU'RE BORED
America's fascination with the elite and underage continues in Bravo's new reality series - NYC Prep. If you're thinking finicky relationships, money, and socializing, you're on the right track.
The "story" revolves around 6 kids who can only agree on one thing - growing up on the Upper East Side makes you become independent younger. Though they have to worry about which exclusive parties to attend, they don't lack ambition. Kelli spends time in the studio to further her singing career, Jessie helps raise thousands of dollars for Operation Smile and is already working towards a career in fashion, Camille has her heart set on Harvard, Taylor attends one of the most competitive public schools in the country, and Sebastian seeks to swoon as many girls as possible with his fluent French.
Oh, and PC, the only other guy, wants to escape the Upper East Side "bubble."

Though the show was advertised as the real substitute for Gossip Girl, the plots of this lovely bunch is almost, dare I say it, typical.Unlike Gossip Girl, it lacks savvy dialogue, memorable outfits, and tantalizing kiss scenes. Without outstanding visuals, the candid teenage chatter makes the show as stale as old gossip.
Cheers to Sebastian and PC, whose unbelievably high egos are the only source of entertainment. And Kelli, who in the second episode, is already tearing up because Sebastian likes Taylor ( a mere public school girl!) more than her... and the reason to continue watching the series ends there.
NYC Prep fails to do what the social elite have done to "outsiders" for years - enthrall you in mystery and impress you with glamour.

ii used to tYpe lyke dis.
7th grade
first e-mail: "confuzzling_factors@yahoo.com"
reason: To defy my parents. I also needed to send classmates group assignments and other misc. things.
reflection: My parents now understand the necessity of an e-mail account (seeing as they check theirs almost daily). My e-mail account has evolved from silly chain letters and friendly correspondence to strictly "business".
first blog: "mz_melanie @ Xanga.com"
reason: It was my middle school crush's birthday, and I wanted to greet him.
reflection: I would have never guessed that sharing your personal life story - and getting responses from other people - would have such an impact on how our society communicatates today. I haven't updated my xanga in over a year, and frankly, don't feel the need to. I'm too busy with myspace, facebook, & twitter now.
AND NOW,
I'm not obsessed with profile views and comments anymore.
I WANT TO LEARN ABOUT THE WORLD, about myself.
